Gryffin Reimagines Band of Horses' “The Funeral” With Heart-Pounding House Remix: Listen

Posted on April 11, 2025April 24, 2025

Grief becomes groove in the hands Gryffin, who has released an official remix of Band of Horses’ timeless track, “The Funeral.”

The PULSE producer blurs the lines of indie-rock and electronic music in the new track, reshaping Band of Horse’ elegiac anthem into a melodic dancefloor ballad that feels simultaneously rooted in memory and pulled forward by the pulse of the present.

Few songs have carved themselves as deeply into the cultural psyche as “The Funeral.” With its ruminative lyrics and spacey strings, the track became an anthem for a generation adrift in its own introspection. Now, nearly two decades later, Gryffin has unearthed the song and reframed it through the lens of modern electronic music.

Gryffin’s aching remix leans into the emotional weight of “The Funeral,” cocooning those ethereal guitar plucks in a house reinvention that beautifully channels the source material’s vulnerability. He doesn’t seek to overwrite overwrite the track’s DNA, but uses percussive finesse to reimagine it for today’s dancefloors without stripping away its intimacy. It’s a reinvention that respects the source material’s vulnerability while offering it a pulse for a new generation of listeners.

You can listen to “The Funeral (2025 Edit)” below and find the track on streaming services here.
